World Wide Knit in Public Day

Did you know it was World Wide Knit in Public Day on Saturday 10th June?

World Wide Knit in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes and takes place on the second Saturday of June each year. It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other's company. Knit in Public Day is the largest knitter run event in the world.

This is the first year we have celebrated it as we thought it was a great way to bring people together for a knit and natter, as well as being good for mental health and reducing isolation. We put up posters inviting people to gather in the Wellmeadow in the centre of Blairgowrie between 11am and 4pm, to being their wolly project and maybe even some snacks!

We had a good turnout with a range of ladies (no chaps sadly) coming and going, enjoying the fabulous sunshine and getting to know new people over the needles and hooks. It didn’t stop there though as a couple of ladies found each other again later in the day by the riverside so had another knit and natter!

The day was enjoyed so much that it was suggested this could happen more often with groups meeting outdoors for a change. Keep an aye out for some woolly makers around the town on your walks and we may even arrange another gathering before the summer is over.

Keeeeeep knitting!
